Genre Research: The Great Gatsby

What elements of the genre, that you chose to base your final task on, does this movie have?

Some elements that are in the movie, The Great Gatsby, that I want in my film are some aspects of the plot. I like the general plot of one person striving for the other person to like them back, and how they would do anything for the other person. I also really like how Jay Gatsby protects Daisy, even though they're not even together. I'm definitely going to include the romance aspect of the drama film in my film. The part of the movie where they see each other after a long time is perfect, and I'm going to definitely do something similar in my project.

What elements of the genre did the movie have that you like?

I love how the whole movie shows how much Jay Gatsby would and did do for Daisy. Everything he would buy and do always had him thinking if Daisy would approve of it. His entire life was dedicated to being with Daisy and getting her back after he went to war. He bought a huge mansion and had parties all the time, just to see if Daisy would stop by. He did so much but he was always too nervous to go meet her because she was already with another man. I also really like how Jay Gatsby protects Daisy, even though they're not together anymore.

What elements of the genre did the movie have that did not appeal to you?

I don't like how Jay Gatsby did illegal stuff in order to gain his wealth. Because of that, he had enemies that were out to get him. It also made him a suspicious person because no one really knew much about him.  I also really don't like how Jay Gatsby ends up dying at the end of the movie. He died because of Daisy. He took the blame for Daisy when she ran over Myrtle, and she still chose to be with Tom Buchanan. He literally cheated on Daisy with Myrtle, and she still chose him. Jay Gatsby deserved better. Daisy just proves that girls tend to choose the bad guy over the good guy.
