Genre Research: To All the Boys I've Loved Before

What elements of the genre, that you chose to base your final task on, does this movie have?

Some elements that are in the movie, To All the Boys I've Loved Before, that I want in my film are some aspects of the plot. The unexpectedness of the relationship between Peter and Lara Jean is amazing. Considering that my film is about two best friends, a guy and a girl, that end up liking each other, is unexpected too. I also like how it's teens in high school. It makes the film more relatable to individuals that are in the same age range as me.

What elements of the genre did the movie have that you like?

I like how unexpected the movie was. Lara Jean writes letters to her crushes, but never sends them. Her little sister mails them, thinking that's what Lara Jean wanted. Now with all of the guys confronting her about the letters that she wrote years ago, she panics. She ends up kissing one of the guys, Peter, to avoid Josh which was her sister's ex. They then plan to "fake date" to make people jealous. They end up falling in love, which I just never expected. I like how unexpected their relationship was, which is the point. In life, relationships are unexpected and some people might start dating, without seeing it coming.

What elements of the genre did the movie have that did not appeal to you?

I don't like how the fairytale of a book was happening throughout the movie. The parts where Lara Jean is dreaming of her prblems with boys. She's dressed all old-fahsioned and it just really didn't make sense. Like sure, she was reading a book like that, but it just didn't fit with the movie. The "costumes" and outfits she wore were also not the cutest, so I wouldn't dress my cast like that. I would dress them up more casual and more trendy.
