Filming for my Music Video: Part One

Image
On Monday, November 30th, I filmed the first third of my music video. I had online classes at the beginning of the day, so I began filming at around 4:00 pm. My bedroom was also really messy, which is the place where I needed to film my music video, so I had to clean it. Once my online classes were over, I began to set up all of my props and equipment. I opened up my laptop and pulled up the song so I could sing-along to the lyrics at the correct speed. I set up my tripod on the side of my bed. I then screwed in my ring light to the top of the tripod so I could have good lighting. Finally, I decided to use my cellphone to film this time because it's just a lot faster to get the scene correct. It also helps because I can fix the lighting before I even start recording. I had my scenes all ready to film, but then I came across one problem. I wasn't sure how I wanted to transition from one scene to the next. For example, I didn't want my music video to be very choppy when I edi...

TiK ToK by Kesha Music Video Planning  Props: Some props that I will be using are my bed, my car, some sunglasses, a toothbrush, nail polish, my closet, a cellphone. I will also use a tripod with my camera.  Costumes: I will most likely be wearing the same outfit the entire time. It will be jeans, a tank top, and some sandals or converse.  Schedule: November 13th: On Friday, I did my introduction blog. I wrote about if I was working with anyone or if I was working by myself. I also wrote about the reasoning behind it. I also wrote about which song I wanted to create a music video with. I went into detail on why I really like the song too.     November 16th: On Monday, I did my research blog. I researched everything about the song and about the genre of the song. I wrote about what pop music is and how people react to it. I also compared pop music from ten years ago to now.   November 17th: On Tuesday, which is today, I'm doing my planning blog. I'm basicall...

Research Blog: Music Video Conventions

Image
Research: Pop Music Conventions  I'm going to be filming a music video to the song TiK ToK by Kesha. Kesha's music falls into the genre of pop.  The typical audience for the genre of pop music is people ranging from ages 16-21. Celebrities and other individuals that participate in pop music videos are usually dressed in very fashionable, and stylish outfits. The artists are portrayed as enjoying life and being very happy.  Pop music lyrics are usually based on love and relationships. The music is very upbeat and about living a fun life.  A lot of pop songs are about teens and their life experiences.  Pop music usually goes along with what is trending. Like "pop" music is the "popular" genre. If one pop song goes viral and becomes more popular, ten others pop up trying to gain the same success.  To create a catchy song, pop genre artists follow one basic structure. Verse, chorus, verse. This is what makes a pop song so catchy.  Pop music usually has a d...

Introduction to the Music Video Project

Image
For this project, I decided to work by myself. Because of COVID-19, I haven't had an in-person class. I haven't met anyone in my class, so I wouldn't know who to choose to be in a group with. Also because of COVID-19, I didn't want to see new people to film. I have a close group of friends that I have been seeing, so I will most likely ask them to help me. I normally never work alone, but honestly, I've been loving it now. I don't have to worry about anyone else getting their assignments done or not being able to film. I get everything done on time and my grades have been a lot better than when I used to work with other people. I love coming up with my own ideas so it's perfect in my opinion. Filming and editing without having someone else's opinion makes me love it even more. For the Music Video Project, I'm choosing a song called TiK ToK by Kesha. I chose this song because I really like listening to throwback 2000s music. I know every lyric to this...

Creative Critical Reflection Blog

Creative Critical Reflection   (1) How does your product use or challenge conventions AND how does it represent social groups or issues? An audience always expects to see conventions in a media studies project. It’s basically the building block of media. I include a few conventions in my commercial. The commercial begins with two people, a boy, and a girl, pulling up to the beach in their car. They walk towards the left of the screen. This is an establishing scene. They disappear into the next transition. The next few scenes take place at the actual beach. Long shots and close-ups were used in these scenes. The last scene, which spotlights the Coca-Cola bottle, represents a zoom-in. This commercial and many other Coca-Cola commercials represent all sorts of social groups. There's always a lot of diversity, which is really important. In my commercial the female was Mexican and the male was from Trinidad.         (2) How does your product engage with audience...

Coca-Cola Commercial

Image
"Taste the Feeling" When my teachers explained what this project was going to be, I already had an idea of what I wanted to do. In Atlanta, Georgia, there's this attraction called the World of Coca-Cola and I used to go all the time when I was younger. I knew that I wanted to create a Coca-Cola commercial because I remember always watching them on TV and at the World of Coca-Cola. I just wasn't sure what my plan was going to be because commercials for Coca-Cola are really diverse and different and no two are the same. I had the idea of filming it at the beach because on a really hot day, you want an ice-cold drink to hydrate you. I also knew that I wanted to film it with another person because Coca-Cola commercials always have more than one person in them. Because of COVID-19, I wasn't able to have as many people as I wanted in my commercial, but I made it work. I researched as much as I could about the elements that I needed to include in the commercial first. I ...

Editing Blog: Putting It All Together

Image
Once I got back home from filming on Sunday, November 1st, I uploaded all of the material that I had gathered from my camera to my cellphone. I did this because I wanted to watch all of the shots so I could choose the ones that I was going to use for the commercial. Once I chose my favorite shots, I airdropped them to my laptop. I opened up iMovie and then I uploaded the different shots onto the application. I put the shots in the order that I wanted them in. I put the "car" scene first, the "walking towards the beach" scene second, the "sitting in the sand" scene third. Then, the fourth scene was the "running towards the ocean" scene, and the fifth was the "running back from the ocean" scene. The sixth scene was the super common scene from Coca-Cola commercials, which is the "drinking from a bottle" but from a side angle scene. the seventh and final scene was where just the Coca-Cola bottle is on the ground. Then I realized m...

Filming Blog: The Beach

Image
On Sunday, November 1st, I filmed my entire commercial. I decided to film with my friend Jonathon. I brought beach towels, a tripod, my Canon Rebel T6 camera, and my cellphone. Jonathon picked me up at 11:00 am and we drove to our nearest Target to buy a pack of Coca-Cola bottles. When we arrived at the beach, we took a while to find a good parking spot considering one of the scenes was going to be filmed using the car. Once we found parking, we went onto the beach to film a few scenes. We ended up filming everything out of order, just because it made more sense. We placed a towel down in the sand and I asked Jonathon to sit on the towel while I placed two Coca-Cola bottles behind Jonathon in the sand. I also set up my tripod and camera. This take was showing both our backs and the Coca-Cola bottles right behind us. The next take we filmed was a simple scene that is used in a lot of Coca-Cola commercials which is the side profile of a person taking a sip of a Coca-Cola. The next take w...
